This screenshot shows that Dolphin displays /run/media and a lot of other
things that the file browser within Kid3 doesn't. In particular, i needed
/run/media/[username]
SUMMARY
When browsing for a folder, /run/media is not displayed. This is a problem
because external media is a likely place to store a media library.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
- See system information
- Insert a removable media (seemingly any; i've personally tested this with two
software (mdadm) RAID arrays of internal SATA hard drives, a single internal
SATA hard drive, a USB hardware RAID enclosure, a USB external hard drive, and
a USB stick);
- Linux mounts them to /run/media/[username] and they become visible in the
file manager;
- Open Kid3;
- Attempt to drag-and-drop from the file manager;
- Attempt to "Open Folder" and "Add Folder" within Kid3 to browse
/run/media/[username];
- Attempt to use the panel/window within Kid3 to browse /run/media/[username]
OBSERVED RESULT
To start, nothing happens when i drag-and-drop a folder, files, or a file. It
does appear in "Open recent", but nothing happens when i select it from there
either.
The folder i want is in an external media mounted to /run/media/[username]. I
clicked "Open..." in Kid3 and navigated to /run, where i found that the
/run/media subfolder is not displayed. The file manager (Dolphin) does display
/run/media and many other subfolders, but Kid3 only displays /run/flatpak,
/run/host, /run/systemd, and /run/user.
Meanwhile, within /home/[username], Kid3 only displays
/home/[username]/Downloads and /home/[username]/Music, despite Dolphin
displaying many other folders and files.
Finally, creating a subfolder in a folder that Kid3 already sees (such as
/home/[username]/Downloads/Kid3/) does result in both "Open..." and "Open
folder..." working perfectly, as well as drag-and-drop.
I haven't inventoried the folders that Kid3 doesn't see, but they seem to be
the same ones that won't drag-and-drop.
EXPECTED RESULT
As many locations/folders as possible should be available, but especially
run/media since that's where (i think?) every storage goes that isn't the home
drive, and external storage is a pretty likely place to store a media library
