#Using KDE Connect's Remote Input is limited for power users:
### Problem
- Mobile soft keyboards often lack modifier keys, preventing shortcut-driven
workflows (e.g., Ctrl/Shift/Alt combinations used to launch apps or control
windows). ⌨️ I completely use keyboard, I have shortcuts too lauch rofi, switch
between virtual desktop and more which I can't use using phone keyboard.
- Executing common actions (close window, launch Rofi) requires GUI clicks
instead of quick commands. ⚙️. We already have a feature to execute commands but
then you have too close remote input and go to another section, execute the
command then come back, what if the command had too do something with input?
Like launch rofi and then type in it, will you go to another section, launch
rofi and then come back to remote intput too type? it's inefficient.
- When using orientation of phone as input for mouse, the phone’s movement
while typing moves the pointer, causing accidental input. 📱➡️🖱️ I am not using
the point when I am using keyboard.
## Solution
Please add these Remote Input improvements to support shortcut-focused
workflows:
- **Modifier buttons:** Add persistent on-screen modifier keys (Ctrl, Alt,
Shift, Super) that can be toggled/held so users can combine them with the soft
keyboard to send shortcuts. ⎇⇧⌘ in the same we have one for left and right
click on the remote input menu, maybe make them slow up only when you press on
keyboard. but it would be really nice to have them.
Ofc with option to toggle this on or off in settings.
- **Command bar / quick actions:** Provide a small command input or
customizable quick-action buttons to send single commands or common shortcuts
(e.g., Alt+F4, launch Rofi, close window) right int he remote input menu. ⚡ So
that I don't have to open another section too execute them. Ofc with option to
toggle this on or off in settings.
- **Auto-disable orientation input while typing:** Add a setting to
automatically pause orientation/mouse input when the keyboard is active (or
when typing is detected), with an option to toggle this behavior. ✋
Thank you — these additions would greatly improve productivity for users who
rely on keyboard shortcuts.
