Yes, if you are not using Baloo then you are using the Dolphin's "there and then" search. That starts from "Here", wherever you are in the filesystem, and explores down the tree: it scans each subfolder and follows symlinks. I think it searches hidden files/folders and then leaves it "up to Dolphin" whether to show you these results or not. If you are in your home folder, the search will explore .local/share/Steam/... If you are searching "Everywhere", you will start at the root.
