Reset the global theme to Breeze, ensuring to also click to include all desktops and windows 2. opened Discover and the first screenshot shows the task manager comes, and the progress bar for the applications section also came up (it was just not caught in time) 3. The task manager then dissappeared, and the screen did nothing further, although I could determine it was downloading the updates in the background looking at the process table and network activity.
