Title: QSV encoding fails with "Error creating a MFX session: -9" since version
24
Detailed Description:
Hi, my name is Ériton Nascimento from the YouTube channel "LW Tec". Since
Kdenlive version 24, hardware-accelerated encoding using Intel QuickSync Video
(QSV) no longer works on my system. When trying to render using QSV profiles,
the job crashes immediately with the following error:
[h264_qsv @ 0x7f1bfc2017c0] Error creating a MFX session: -9.
I am currently running an Arch Linux-based distribution with an Intel Core
i5-7500 (Intel HD Graphics 630). This error happens across almost all modern
distributions I've tested.
The only specific setups where QSV still works for me are Linux Mint 23.04 and
Zorin OS. Interestingly, the AppImage version of Kdenlive 24 also worked fine
specifically on Zorin OS, but only because version 23 was previously installed
on that system, meaning the AppImage likely fell back to using the system's
already installed older libraries.
This indicates a clear regression or initialization failure related to how
newer Kdenlive/FFmpeg builds package or interact with Intel's media libraries
(libmfx / libvpl) on older Intel generations (like Kaby Lake).
Steps to reproduce:
Open Kdenlive 24+ on a modern distro (like Arch Linux).
Go to the Render dialog and select an Intel QSV hardware acceleration profile.
Start rendering.
Observed Result:
The rendering process crashes instantly with error code -9.
Expected Result:
The video should render normally using Intel QuickSync hardware acceleration.
