As a long-time-ago former developer, I understand.  Personally I prefer the old
school, repository-based installation packages (.deb, etc).  But I can see how
appimages would make life easier for developers, especially in the face of what
must be an increasingly diverse (and thus unpredictable) application
"ecosystem".  For instance, I imagine interoperability must be a real challenge
these days.

Anyway, I look forward to trying digikam 9+ !
