DESCRIPTION
I am encountering issues with the way in which the icon only task manager does
grouping and applies icons.
All the issues seem to come from the fact that the "window title" or the
"program name" is used rather than the window class.
Some examples:
1. I am using webapp manager in order to have websites that provide the needed
functionality to appear as applications. For instance, I use it to have
Whatsapp on the desktop appearing as an application. The webapp manager lets
you pick different backends (firefox, chromium, etc.). If I pick "firefox"
then:
- While the web application gets launched it gets the icon specified in its
desktop file. But as soon as the application window opens, the icon gets
changed to the firefox one
- The webapp gets grouped together with firefox. This happens notwithstanding
the fact that the window class is not firefox but "Webapp-Whatsapp6161"
- The window title includes the word "Firefox"
Funny enough, if I use the chromium backend, then the window title does not
include "Chromium" and everything is fine: the icon specified in the desktop
file is used and the grouping works correctly.
2. If I use xwayland satellite, applications get the "generic" wayland icon.
For instance if I launch "xeyes" as "DISPLAY=:1 xeyes" where ":1" is managed by
xwayland satellite, then xeys gets the "generic" icon. This happens
notwithstanding the fact that the window class is "Xeyes".
