Yes, they introduced a slight modification that displays long items/folders
names in a different way: truncating the whole text, displaying just the end &
beginning of it.

It's just a different way to do it, still doesn't fix the issue. People working
with multimedia files/folders with long names + identifiers as part of those
names (these IDs being part of the workflow, can't be changed) still face the
very same issue.

This is properly addressed on Gnome's file manager since... as long as i can
remember (began using Linux around 2008). Files/folders with long names aren't
fully displayed until you select 'em (can't remember now if this behaviour can
be applied on hovering as well), so when a file/folder is selected (this action
is implying there's an additional motivation, so it makes sense) it displays
the full name, even if it covers surrounding files/folders. Needless to say,
once unselected it returs to previous state.
