--- Comment #13 from [email protected] --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #12) > Are you sure? Brightness and gamma aren't the same thing, and Bug 512653 is > about being able specifically to lower the brightness level to less than > what the hardware supports using a software darkening overlay. I don't > believe this is something that would satisfy people who truly want or need > to change the gamma level. Bug 512653 is not specifically about brightness; that was just one example. The description starts with "Currently there is no way for a third-party program to alter the image displayed on the screen under Wayland the way it was possible on X11 with e.g. Redshift. This means it is not possible to perform actions such as reduce the brightness below what the hardware supports, which is however fundamental with many displays as they are too bright even at their minimum setting. When trying to use gammastep, it complains that it can't do it; looking at the project's GitLab page (https://gitlab.com/chinstrap/gammastep) it says that it "supports the wlroots protocol for gamma adjustments," I understand the point about arbitrarily changing screen settings will mess up color management, but sometimes people have particular needs that aren't met by color management. I think that the bugs are duplicates, but I believe the developer is making the perfect the enemy of the good. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
