A screencast showing the problem
DESCRIPTION
With Plasma Keyboard enabled on a standard laptop (because I like the pop-up
character compose menus), when I write emails in a Gmail compose box, some
characters *cannot* be typed into the email body box - though they work fine
everywhere else, including the GMail compose subject line.
Also - and worse - when using the pop-up character compose to select a
non-standard character - the last character entered before that, is deleted -
as if the backspace key was pressed.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable Plasma Keyboard under System Settings -> Virtual Keyboard
2. Open Firefox, go to Gmail and create a new message
3. Type " (double qoute) into the message body
4. Type something else, then press and hold the " key and select one of the
characters from the pop-up menu that opens.
OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing seems to be happening, after step 4 the last character typed is deleted
before the selected special char is inserted.
EXPECTED RESULT
A double quote character should be typed in. If a special char is selected from
the Plasma virtual keyboard pop-up menu, it should not modify previously typed
text.
