I would guess 10 years ago, if you ran sleep 5 in the terminal, browsed to another directory, the terminal would not catch up after 5 seconds. But today it seems the terminal has precedence. When browsing to another directory and waiting for 5 seconds, dolphin's folder view would snap back to the directory the terminal was in before sleep.
