Sorry, I don't understand exactly what you want me to try. Can you give a clear step-by-step? This is what I tried: going to System Tray Settings and change the Printers entry from "Show when relevant" to "Never show (disabled") and then back to "Show when relevant". Doing that resets the counter and the icon is not shown.
