DESCRIPTION

When using wayland with external screens connected though a thunderbolt dock I
get multiple problems concerning both the plasma settings and heavy screen
freezes.

This makes wayland unusable for me (X11 works fine). (Which will be a problem
when X11 gets dropped...)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plug in external monitors with thunderbolt dock when in wayland session.
I suppose this issue has to do specifically with my hardware which makes
reproduction hard. If I can provide any further information or if I should test
anything, I will be happy to do so.

OBSERVED RESULT

The external monitor generally functions and can be used. Though because of the
plasma settings I cannot reconfigure anything like the arrangement.

1. Plasma settings issues:
- I get the error message: "All displays are disabled. Enable at least one." -
even though I can see the "enabled" checkmark on two monitors and both of them
work.

- Though I don't have that issue right now, in the past I also had the error
that it complained that one screen was supposedly at "-2147483647" coordinates.

2. Other issues: When external monitors are connected though the thunderbolt
dock, the integrated monitor starts to freeze for long periods
- The screen somethime "unfreezes" for usually no more than 5s at a time.

- If at a time the screen is not frozen and I move my cursor into or out of any
application window the screen will freeze 100% of times.

- Fast mouse movements seem to help to "unfreeze" the screen temporarily (until
the mouse goes over any application window border or onto the task bar).

- When slowly moving the mouse on the frozen screen, it will usually remain
frozen.

UNSUCCESSFUL MITIGATION ATTEMPTS:

I tried to boot the os with any of the following options:
- i915.enable_psr=0
- i915.enable_fbc=0
- i915.enable_dc=0
- nvidia-drm.fbdev=1

I also tried to force software cursors with `KWIN_FORCE_SW_CURSOR=1` in
`/etc/environment`

HARDWARE:
Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz
Graphics Processor 1: Intel® UHD Graphics integrated
Graphics Processor 2: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti discrete
Product Name: XPS 15 9500
Thunderbolt dock: Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Type 40AC DBB9003L1

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: CachyOS Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.27.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1
Kernel Version: 7.0.12-1-cachyos (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

While the above are the current software versions, I also had the very exact
same issues with:
- Plasma 6.6
- Endevour OS - tested sometime in january earlier this year

However, I did NOT! have the same issues with wayland in Kubuntu, specifically
with the following versions (on the same hardware):
Operating System: Kubuntu 25.10
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.17.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2
Kernel Version: 6.17.0-35-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
