            Bug ID: 521758
Summary: Bracket Auto Close inconsistent in block mode
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kate
      Version First 26.04.0
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Other
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: application
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

In block mode, the insertion of the matched bracket is different, depending on
whether the cursor is spread over multiple lines or rests on a single line.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have Block Mode and auto close enabled.
2. Spread the cursor over multiple lines
3. Insert a character with a matched bracket

OBSERVED RESULT
Matching brackets are always inserted in pairs, regardless of adjacent text.
Pressing Backspace always removes both of them. So it is not possible to insert
only an opening bracket, when the cursor is spread out.

EXPECTED RESULT
Either of these:
- Closing bracket is only inserted if none of the lines have adjacent text
- Multiline cursor always disregards auto close
- Backspace only removes closing bracket
Ideally, some sort of option to control behaviour.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Observed over multiple OS and versions.
