            Bug ID: 521815
Summary: Direct scanout looks bad with HDR
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: kwin
      Version First 6.7.0
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: colour-management
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION
Direct scanout looks bad with HDR content and/or monitor switched to HDR mode.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable HDR
2. Run HDR content (e.g. HDR game with highlights like SUN)
3. Toggle between DS/Compositing

There are more steps to reproduce for various broken scenarios, I provided one
of them.

OBSERVED RESULT
HDR behaves differently in each application (games, QMPlay2, MPV) - everything
works bad in different scenarios (with night light and without night light -
significantly changes overall brightness or clips highlights a lot or glitches
the dark parts).

EXPECTED RESULT
Visually the same (or almost the same - no glitches, no highlight clipping, no
significant overall brightness change) as in compositing mode in every
application.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: 7.0.12-1-cachyos
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.27.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
SDR content on SDR screen - correct in all cases (including color profile and
night light)
SDR content on HDR screen - bad, overall brightness and colors changes a bit
HDR content on SDR screen - average, glitches in some special cases
HDR content on HDR screen - very bad, depends on application: highlight
clipping (very visible) or overall brightness is significantly changed

RDNA2 GPU.

Also "Color profile" "None" is disabled (grayed-out), but it's possible to use
it by mouse wheel or keyboard navigation for HDR.
