            Bug ID: 521927
Summary: Top screen row mirrored/ghosted into bottom panel
after Frameworks 6.27.0 update (Wayland, Intel
                    Skylake)
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: kwin
      Version First 6.6.0
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: wayland-generic
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

After updating KDE Frameworks to 6.27.0, a visual artifact appears
intermittently: the top row of screen content (including window title bar text)
is mirrored/duplicated at the bottom of the screen, overlapping the lower half
of the Plasma panel. Panel icons remain partially visible through the
semi-transparent ghost image.

The artifact builds up gradually rather than appearing instantly — first as a
thin ~1-2mm line, growing to ~5mm over roughly 2-3 minutes of uptime in the
session.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log into a Plasma Wayland session
2. Use the desktop normally
3. Observe a thin line appearing near the bottom of the screen, gradually
thickening over a few minutes, mirroring top-screen content

OBSERVED RESULT
Ghost/mirrored image of the top screen row appears in the bottom panel area,
growing in size over time.

EXPECTED RESULT
No visual artifacts.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Fedora Linux 43
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.27.0
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Kernel Version: tested on both 6.18.8-1.surface and 6.19.8-3.surface
(linux-surface kernels) — issue present on both
Graphics Processor: Intel Iris Graphics 540 (Skylake GT3), driver i915, Mesa
25.3.6

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Not present at the SDDM login screen — only appears after logging into the
Plasma session, suggesting a session/compositor-level rather than
kernel/driver-level cause
- Started appearing immediately after a KDE Frameworks 6.27.0 update (installed
2026-06-19)
- Tested disabling EDR (Extended Dynamic Range) in display settings — no change
- Tested forcing KWin GLCore/OpenGL 3.1 backend — no change
- No relevant errors in journalctl --user -u plasma-kwin_wayland or dmesg |
grep i915
- Hardware: Microsoft Surface Pro 4
