Bug ID: 522036
Summary: Quick tiling fails on multi display and individual
screen Virtual Desktops
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.7.0
Reported In:
Platform: EndeavourOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Quick Tiling
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
When the option for individual screen virtual desktops is enabled quick tiling
to an edge between screens on different VD's fails on one screen.
If I set both screens to same vd, and snap to a shared corner or edge, then it
works correctly on both.
The same issue persists with displays arranged vertically as well as
horizontally
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1: Connect two displays arranged either horizontally or vertically.
2: Enable "Switch desktop independently for each screen".
3: Place both displays on the same virtual desktop.
4: Verify that quick tiling works correctly on the shared edge between the
displays.
5: Change one display to a different virtual desktop.
6: Drag a window to the shared edge or corner between the displays to trigger
quick tiling.
7: Release the mouse button.
OBSERVED RESULT
Result: Quick tiling succeeds on one display but fails on the adjacent display
when the displays are showing different virtual desktops. Which display
succeeds depends on which display the window was previously tiled on before the
virtual desktops were separated.
EXPECTED RESULT
Quick tile should work on any corner/ edge including ones between two different
VD's
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: EndeavourOS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.27.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1
Kernel Version: 7.0.12-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
HARDWARE
Processors: 20 × 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-12700
Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (31.1 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti
Nvidia Driver: 610.43.02
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Tiled windows bleed 1 pixel into other screen, though I tried moving the screen
apart and problem still exists even when not touching on that edge.
Quick tiling with Meta + Arrow keys works correctly on the same shared edges on
both screens.
The problem appears specific to drag-to-edge quick tiling. Drag-to-edge tiling
also places the tiled window with a 1 pixel overlap into the adjacent monitor,
while Meta + Arrow tiling does not.
