Bug ID: 522250
Summary: Taking rectangular screenshots does not scale with
increased pixels / display size on HiDPI screens
Classification: Applications
Product: Spectacle
Version First unspecified

DESCRIPTION
My laptop (2560x1600) is connected to an external monitor (6016x3384). I have
configured "When launching Spectacle" to "Take rectangular screenshot". When I
press the screenshot key, I have to wait 4-5 seconds for the selection
rectangle to display.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure "When launching Spectacle" to "Take rectangular screenshot".
2. Launch spectacle on a machine with a single, low-resolution display. Notice
how fast the selection rectangle displays.
2. Add an external display configured with a low resolutions and time step 2.
3. Replace/reconfigure the external display with the maximum resolution, and
time step 2.
OBSERVED RESULT
On my laptop alone, the rectangle selection displays almost instantly.
The larger the connected external display resolution, the slower the selection
rectangle is to get drawn.
EXPECTED RESULT
I appreciate dimming the outside of the rectangle, but that should take 4-5ms,
not 4-5 seconds. Full-screen applications achieve a refresh rate of 30fps with
not problem (e.g. https://webglsamples.org/aquarium/aquarium.html with 1000
fish).
