            Bug ID: 522325
Summary: Add shortcut: reduce refresh rate (to safe mode)
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: KScreen
      Version First 6.6.4
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: common
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

Twice recently after login I've had a monitor report "invalid mode" (possibly
because of a mode saved in kscreen or kwinoutputconfig.json which no longer
functioned). I'd like a "reset" keyboard shortcut to switch back to a safe
video mode to avoid having to modify config files from a vTTY.

Note that it's no longer good enough to verify that a video mode works once
then assume it does forever since the available bandwidth can depend on the
cable and on whether DSC is enabled (I've had to forcefully disable this on one
screen to avoid periodic blanking), and maybe on other factors (which port the
screen is plugged into?). Note also that screens may report modes which fail to
work; e.g. I have one which reportedly supports 4k 144Hz 10bpp but in practice
this does not work reliably, while 4k 120Hz 8bpp does (even without DSC).

I would suggest such a shortcut key would simply reduce the refresh rate; this
reduces video bandwidth which is probably the only problem such a key would
need to solve. Each press could reduce the refresh rate to the next lowest
value which is a multiple of 30Hz.
