Unfortunately, I don't have access to our AD system, but what I can imagine
that every entity that controls any type of access (group, list, group of
groups, etc.) has its own ID, never erased. That's just a guess from my side,
so it can be random, too.

I found a group that I'm part of, and its gid is around two billion.

Checked again to be sure, and yes, the output of the "id" command shows that
uid is huge.
