Bug ID: 522671
Summary: Allow multiple vertical column indicator lines
Classification: I don't know
Product: kde
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: Debian stable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
Currently, Kate (and KDevelop) only supports a single vertical line to mark a
specific column (the static word wrap marker). While this is helpful, it is
limiting when formatting documents or code for specific style guides. Sometimes
it is better to have more than one vertical line. Some other editors (for
example, Notepad++, VS Code) do support multiple vertical indicator lines.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Kate Settings (DE:Einstellungen) -> Configure Kate (DE:Kate Einrichten)
-> Editing (DE:Bearbeitung) -> General (DE:Allgemein).
2. Look at the option "Show static word wrap marker" (DE:Vertikale Linie an
Umbruchspalte anzeigen).
3. Notice that you can only Configure one vertical line, not multiple lines.
The position (for example at column 80) can be set below that option.
OBSERVED RESULT
Kate (and KDevelop) renders only a single vertical guide/line at the specified
column. It is impossible to configure a second line (for example, a first
margin for code at column 80, and a second margin at column 120 for comments).
EXPECTED RESULT
I would like to have the ability to define and display multiple vertical
indicator lines simultaneously.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 13
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.6
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.12.94+deb13-amd64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
There was an old bug report (Bug 33583) where this was already mentioned.
However, because that ticket combined several different points and feature
requests, the desire for multiple vertical indicator lines was overlooked, and
the old report was ultimately marked as resolved.
