Thanks for your suggestion. I followed the procedure: stopped Baloo, renamed `~/.local/share/baloo/index`, restarted it, and let it rebuild the index from scratch. The procedure worked. Baloo completed the reindexing successfully, and I haven't experienced the crash again. It looks like the index had indeed reached an inconsistent state.
