Bug ID: 522830
Summary: Freehand Brush Tool is Always Smoothed
Classification: Applications
Product: krita
Version First 5.3.2.1
Reported In:
Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Brush engines
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
The brush tool seems to always have some form of smoothing present even with
smoothing disabled. The cursor lags very slightly behind pen movements and
strokes trend towards smooth even curves with no jitter. This behavior is
SUBTLE but observable.
Switching from freehand brush to another tool such as the wand shows snappier
none-smoothed cursor behavior.
Compare line drawing to Drawpile or Photoshop, where non-smoothed strokes are
snappier and will show signs of jitter at times.
Brush smoothing set to "none" doesn't seem to have an effect and appears no
different to "basic" smoothing.
No perceptible difference between Wintab or Windows Ink.
Is not fixed by increasing the max cursor speed in settings.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select Freehand Brush Tool
2. Change Smoothing to None
3. Observe subtle cursor lag and smooth "interpolated" feeling strokes
4. Switch to Move or Wand tool to observe more true-to-input cursor behavior
OBSERVED RESULT
Brush cursor has a very slight delay and smoothed movements with smoothing set
to "off"
EXPECTED RESULT
More true-to-input snappiness and no smoothing
