That should not happen.

The "backstop" to prevent it is a limit on RAM usage enforced by a systemd unit
file, you do need a system running systemd and it does need to have memory
accounting running for this to work.

You can check with "$ systemctl --user status kde-baloo", this should give a
description of the process and the resources it is using together with the last
journal entries. See if it gives you a "Memory" line...
