DESCRIPTION
I am currently working on an album containing around 11000 photos and videos. A
common operation I need to do is open an image in an external application, edit
it, and save the edited image under a new file name in the same album.

When I do that, the new file does not appear in Digikam's album view until I
refresh the album (either by pressing F5 och right-clicking the album and
choosing "Refresh"). This instantly makes the new image appear in the album.
However, it also starts a background job reloading all of the thumbnails of all
the images in the album. This background job takes just under 6 minutes to
complete, and it's completely useless, since none of the old files have
changed.

If I edit another image before the thumbnail refresh is complete, and click
"Refresh" again, I again see the new file immediately, but another thumbnail
refresh job is queued behind the first one, starting once it has completed. I
have ended a working session with waiting 15-20 minutes just for several queued
thumbnail refresh jobs to complete.

Is there a way to tell Digikam just to pick up new files in an album, without
refreshing all the thumbnails of files that have not changed?

Digikam is working with SQLite databases on a local SSD which has no I/O load
other than Digikam.
