--- Comment #2 from Jakub Kołakowski <[email protected]> --- Comment on attachment 194304 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=194304 Reproduced bug I can reproduce this on Plasma 6.7.2. Dropping an icon near the screen edge, at a half-grid position next to other icons, sometimes makes some of the icons disappear. See Recording attached. Some findings after digging into it: The files themselves are fine, they are still in the Desktop folder. Logging out and back in brings the icons back. So this is purely a view/positions issue. I checked ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc right after reproducing, before relogging: positions={"1920x1080":["4","17","desktop:/Plik tekstowy.txt","3","2","desktop:/Arquivo de texto (4).txt","1","7","desktop:/test short video.webm","0","1","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (2).txt","4","16","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (3).txt","2","4","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (5).txt","3","3","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (1).txt","1","6","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (4).txt","4","15"]} The grid header says 4 rows x 17 columns, so valid row indices are 0-3. But two items are placed in row 4, and those are exactly the two icons that were invisible on my desktop. Every visible icon had an in-bounds position. After relogging the positions themselves are unchanged, both items still sit at row 4, but the grid header now says 5x17, so row 4 is valid again and the icons show up: positions={"1920x1080":["5","17","desktop:/Arquivo de texto (4).txt","1","7","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (3).txt","2","4","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (2).txt","4","16","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (5).txt","3","3","desktop:/Plik tekstowy.txt","3","2","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (1).txt","1","6","desktop:/Plik tekstowy (4).txt","4","15","desktop:/test short video.webm","0","1"]} So relogin does not reposition anything, it just recomputes the grid size. Icons are invisible whenever their stored position falls outside the current grid. One more thing: across three captures at the same 1920x1080 resolution, with the same icon size, the row count was 6, then 4, then 5. So the grid height calculation itself seems unstable, and a drag and drop near the edge can shrink the grid below rows that already contain items. That would also explain why the bug only happens "eventually", you need a drop that happens to trigger the resize. Also noticed the positions list keeps stale entries for files deleted long ago (test short video.webm in my case). Might be unrelated but worth mentioning.
