--- Comment #3 from Nate Graham <[email protected]> ---
The problem here is that there's no real concept of "dark mode" or "light
mode". This switch abstracts that by changing between the two global themes you
have configured on System Settings' Quick Settings page. So in essence, you
choose for yourself what counts as "light" and what counts as "dark".

So if you manually switch to a different global theme, or change individual
settings without telling the system that you want a new global theme to count
as the new "light" or "dark" theme, then it has no way of knowing what you
want.

This could be alleviated a bit if the light/dark switch only switched between
color schemes, not entire global themes. But that wouldn't *fully* alleviate
the problem; what if you had manually switched to a different color scheme the
system doesn't consider to be its standard light or dark color scheme? Same
problem.

I fear there may not be a good way to resolve this issue. At least, I can't
think of a clean one right now.

Does anyone else have any ideas?
