DESCRIPTION
I've been using CachyOS, Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop, and Fedora Kinoite and have
had various problems with the dim inactive effect – either squares of color
noise in the middle of the screen (happened in Cachy) or the computer becomes
unusably slow – even mouse movement is at a few seconds per frame (the mouse
being affected may hint where the issue is). It is intermittent but this effect
seems to be the one thing I can trace it down to. At first, I thought it was
two different issues – the color noise blocks in Cachy led me to switch to
Fedora, then when Fedora released 7.1.3 I thought it was a kernel issue there
so decided to try Kinoite as I wanted a fresh install and had been considering
it anyway. I thought this was fixed in Kinoite – until I enabled dim inactive
and of course, the color noise (not the slowness) was back.
With 6.7.3 being released today in Kinoite I tried again and had the slowness
after about 15 minutes (though no color noise) leading me to believe they might
be different manifestations of the same bug. If not, they do both appear to be
tied to the combination of Plasma 6.7, Linux 7.1, and this effect enabled.
Running GTK applications also seems to be a trigger, I can't remember seeing
either bug when no GTK applications were running – and starting GTK
applications can sometimes lead to it starting instantly.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable dim inactive effect (I have my system set to German and it's called
'Inaktive Abdunkeln" but I think the English is dim inactive)
2. Open multiple GTK apps and spend some time using the computer
OBSERVED RESULT
Occasions where system slows to one frame every few seconds _or_ a block of
color noise appears in the middle of the screen
EXPECTED RESULT
Normal performance regardless of effects running (within reason for the CPU
time the effects themselves take)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7a gen 11, 2880x1800 OLED running at 120 Hz and high quality
color mode (notably the efficiency mode causes different but more severe color
noise – so that might be related) 16bit/ch. Happy to share any other details
needed.
