Bug ID: 523322
Summary: Keyboard not recognized on unlock screen, desktop
fails to load on unlock
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.7.3
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Screen locking
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
DESCRIPTION When the computer wakes from sleep or screen lock, the graphics
driver and Wayland compositor struggle to sync up the display outputs,
resulting in a black screen. The displays register as active, but no visual
output is drawn by kwin_wayland or kscreenlocker. The session requires either a
long wait to eventually recover, or a complete restart of plasmashell/kwin from
a TTY.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use a single or multi-monitor setup (issue occurs with or without a KVM
switch).
2. Allow the screen to lock and displays to go to sleep for a long period of
time.
3. Attempt to unlock the screen / wake the computer.
4. OBSERVED RESULT: Keyboard input not recognized. After waiting a while
(*minutes*) it will be recognized. Once logged in, you will have a black
background with the interfaces that were open on locking, but nothing else.
Theres no task bar to open applications or desktop at all.
Remediation requires restarting plasmashall or waiting minutes (again) for it
to eventually recover.
EXPECTED RESULT The compositor should correctly detect the monitor reconnecting
via the KVM switch and redraw the lock screen immediately without freezing the
session.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Nobara Linux 44 KDE Plasma Version:
6.7.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.28.0 Qt Version: 6.11.1 Kernel Version:
7.1.3-200.nobara.fc44.x86_64 Graphics Platform: Wayland
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Hardware: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (amdgpu driver) There
are no outright crashes of kscreenlocker_greet in the journal during this
freeze, suggesting a hang rather than a segfault. (Note: Online communities
suggest this could be related to amdgpu.sg_display features or KScreen's
monitor polling when waking from sleep, but I have not been able to find a fix
for this yet.
