SUMMARY
When Plasma Login Manager displays the login greeter, connected monitors
remain on indefinitely. The greeter session does not appear to start any
display-idle
or DPMS controller.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable Plasma Login Manager as the display manager.
2. Reboot and remain at the login screen.
3. Do not provide any keyboard or mouse input.
4. Wait longer than the normal monitor-off timeout (tested beyond 15
minutes).
OBSERVED RESULT
The monitors remain on indefinitely.
EXPECTED RESULT
The login greeter should turn off the monitors after a reasonable period of
inactivity and wake them on input.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The active display manager is:
/usr/lib/systemd/system/plasmalogin.service
The plasma-login-wayland.target starts the KWin login service, greeter, and
wallpaper, but does not start PowerDevil or another display-idle controller.
As a diagnostic experiment, I added plasma-powerdevil.service to the greeter
target and configured a five-minute timeout for the plasmalogin account. This
did
not work: PowerDevil repeatedly crashed because it could not connect to the
greeter's Wayland display:
Failed to create wl_display (No such file or directory)
Could not load the Qt platform plugin "wayland"
plasma-powerdevil.service: Failed with result 'core-dump'
Start request repeated too quickly
The experimental override has since been removed.
