The only (?) app where users can add and configure calendars is KOrganizer.
Unfortunately KOrganizer itself as a calendar viewer and editor and
notiftications from the calendars are living in a separate world, something
that is not obvious for the regular users, creating confusion.
The main problem: disabled calendars in KOrganizer still emit notifications.
This is confusing and the solution to stop is hidden: right click on the
calendar, select Folder Properties and check "Block reminders locally". In
case someone uses a groupware server (directly, via caldav, doesn't matter)
that has several public calendars, the user will get notifications and
reminders from all of those, even if he is not interested in them. As I
learned, there is a valid use case when someone doesn't want to *see* the
calendar entries, but wants to get the reminders, so the suggestion is to
update the KOrganizer UI in a way it is easy and straightforward to disable
reminder notifications. One idea: add a clickable "bell" icon near the calendar
that acts as a notification blocker/enabler. I would go even further and new,
unselected calendars should be "muted" by default and also they should be mute
if the calendar is deselected, with an option to re-enable the notifications by
clicking on the bell icon.
