            Bug ID: 523641
Summary: With "suspend when closing the lid" but NOT "even when
external monitor", disconnecting the monitor with lid
already closed causes sleep but reconnecting doesn't
                    wake up
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell
      Version First 6.7.3
       Reported In:
          Platform: Manjaro
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Power management & brightness
          Assignee: [email protected]

  Target Milestone: 1.0

DESCRIPTION

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
On a laptop:
1. make sure your setting for "when laptop lid closed" is "Sleep" and the
checkbox "even when an external monitor is connected" is NOT checked
2. connect an external monitor
3. (probably not necessary) Configure the external monitor as the only monitor
4. close the lid
5. disconnect the external monitor while the lid remains closed
6. reconnect the external monitor while the lid is still closed

OBSERVED RESULT
- when you disconnect the externall monitor, the system goes to sleep
- when you reconnect the external monitor, the system does NOT wake up

EXPECTED RESULT
In principle, the idea of going to sleep when disconnecting the external
monitor (because you are bringing the laptop into the state "lid closed,
external monitor not connected") is questionable. I am against it, because my
expectation is that the *act* of *closing* the lid is what triggers sleep, and
also because unplugging and immediately re-plugging a monitor, or unplugging
one and plugging in another one, is a fairly common action; but I understand
that there might be arguments in favor. However, that is only under the
UNNEGOTIABLE condition, that when I reconnect the external monitor, that wakes
up the computer. If that is not a possibility because of how the hardware
works, then going to sleep upon disconnecting the monitor while the lid is
closed is out of the question.
