            Bug ID: 523749
Summary: Disabled cursor blinking removes focus indication in
                    Kate/KWrite
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kate
      Version First 26.04.2
       Reported In:
          Platform: Flatpak
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: part
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION

When "Text Cursor → Cursor Blinking" is disabled in GNOME's Accessibility
settings (GNOME's Settings → Accessibility → Typing), Kate and KWrite display
the same text cursor regardless of whether the editor has keyboard focus.

Because the cursor is no longer blinking, there is no visual indication that
the editor is inactive. Other applications (e.g. GNOME Text Editor, GNOME
Terminal, Firefox, and Qt Creator) either hide the inactive cursor or render it
differently.

This affects both Kate and KWrite, suggesting that the issue perhaps is in the
shared KTextEditor component rather than in the application UI?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. In GNOME's Settings, open Accessibility → Typing.
2. Disable "Cursor Blinking" under "Text Cursor".
3. Open Kate or KWrite.
4. Place the text cursor in a document.
5. Switch focus to another window.

OBSERVED RESULT

The text cursor remains visible and has the same appearance as when the editor
has keyboard focus.

EXPECTED RESULT

When the editor loses keyboard focus, the text cursor should be hidden or
otherwise visually distinguishable from the active cursor, even when cursor
blinking is disabled.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Operating System: Fedora Linux 44.20260801.0 (Silverblue)
KDE Plasma Version: N/A (GNOME session)
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.27.0
Qt Version: 6.10.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Kate was installed via Flatpak (org.kde.kate), version 26.04.2.

Kate About → Components reports:
- KDE Frameworks: 6.27.0
- Qt: 6.10.3 (using and built against)
- KDE Flatpak runtime (Wayland)

Desktop environment: GNOME
Session type: Wayland

Qt Creator running in the same environment does not show this issue: it hides
the cursor when the editor loses keyboard focus.
