I'm using digikam 9.1.0 from an appimage on linux.
Recently the number of faces found has exploded on my old (nearly 30 year
history) photos and the number of people I'm tagging is huge. I need some
structure to know who I know from what. It's possible to drag a face tag to be
under another face-tag or one that is defined manually in the left face-tag
area. This becomes harder and harder as more faces get added and scrolling
while holding down the left mouse button and trying to find the right face-tag
to place the face under the mouse is very frustrating and time consuming.
It is also possible to specify the tag hierarchy while typing the name for a
new face, but this is also time consuming and hard when dealing with lots of
faces and categories.
I don't have a one-true solution, but this is very similar to organising files
in directories, so similar interface constructs apply, I think. So, dolphin has
the "move-to" or "copy-to" options in the right mousebutton menu. midnight
commander or dolphin can show a side-by-side view to drag things around, etc.
If it wasn't currently unworkable in my situation, I'd label this as a wish,
but to me it feels like a bug in the interface to have to do the organising
like this.
