File properties on desktop are outdated, Dolphin's are correctly up to date

DESCRIPTION
The attached screenshot may be far more descriptive. Please take a look.

If you copy a file to the ~/Desktop folder for the first time using the cp
command, its properties will show up fine and will be up to date.

But if you modify the file later (such as a binary recompilation with no debug
info, which shrank this file from 40 MB to 2.4 MB) and then copy it again with
cp at a later time, and close the Properties window and open it again, it will
still show the older size and older modification date, which is not good for
tracking file size changes.

The file permissions, checksums and details tab may be potentially affected by
this bug.

The only fix at the moment is deleting the file and then copying it again to
the ~/Desktop using cp, only then right clicking it on the desktop and clicking
Properties will show the updated size and metadata.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. copy a file to the desktop folder using cp
2. right click and check its properties, note down size, timestamps and the
other tabs
3. close the properties tab
4. wait for a couple of minutes and truncate the original file (so you can
trigger a file size change)
5. copy the truncated file to the desktop using cp, right click it on your
desktop and open properties
6. also open Dolphin, go to ~/Desktop and check the file properties

OBSERVED RESULT
The file properties, when consulted through the Desktop, are from the older
file version, which can be dangerous if the file permissions display is also
affected.

The properties on Dolphin are correctly updated.

EXPECTED RESULT
The file properties, when consulted through the Desktop, should be strictly
updated to Dolphin's. Please check the attached screenshot.
