Hello digiKam Team,
I am currently looking for software to manage and face-tag my local photo
collection, and I am strongly considering digiKam. However, I have hit a
technical roadblock regarding how digiKam handles file modification timestamps
and cloud backups, which prevents me from fully adopting it.
My photos are stored in mixed-content folders (images and other documents mixed
together) and backed up using a cloud solution (Jottacloud) that periodically
scans the hard drive.
The Problem:
If I choose to "Preserve file modification timestamp" in digiKam when tagging,
my cloud backup completely misses the updated metadata during its disk scans.
On the other hand, if I let digiKam update the timestamp to the current time,
the original chronological sorting in Windows Explorer (which I heavily rely on
for my mixed folders) is ruined.
Suggested Feature:
Would it be possible to introduce an option under Metadata Settings called
something like: "Shift file modification timestamp by +1 or -1 second upon
saving"?
This tiny 1-second adjustment would trigger cloud synchronization tools to
register the file change and back up the new metadata, while practically
preserving the original chronological layout in file managers like Windows
Explorer.
Having this option would make digiKam the perfect solution for my workflow, and
I am sure many other users relying on file-scanning cloud backups would benefit
greatly from it.
