Bug ID: 524250
Summary: Feature request: allow redirecting ctrl+s to Save
dialog
Classification: Applications
Product: Spectacle
Version First 6.7.0

DESCRIPTION
Currently, pressing Ctrl+S in Spectacle automatically saves the screenshot to
the default location with the filename template.
For users who frequently need to save screenshots to custom locations which
maybe different every time, this default behavior is not convenient. If a user
accidentally presses ctrl+S, the file is instantly saved to the default
location. The user then has to open dolphin, go to the default folder, and
either move to desired location or delete the misplaced file.
In many other software, such as LibreOffice or GIMP, pressing ctrl+S on a new,
unsaved file opens the "Save As..." dialog instead of automatically save to a
specific location. I personally have accidentally pressed ctrl+S in Spectacle
window out of habit many times. This problem is not solved by using
ctrl+shift+S instead, because the common thing to expect when you press ctrl+S
in a new file is to open the save dialog.
I am not suggesting changing the default behavior of Spectacle since it will
likely disturb the workflows of other users. I suggest instead add a checkbox
in the options window to allow users to default ctrl+S shortcut to open the
save dialog for a new screenshot, which aligns with the default behavior of
other software.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Take a new screenshot
2. In spectacle window of the new screenshot, press ctrl+S
OBSERVED RESULT
The file is automatically saved to a per-specified location using a naming
template, without ever showing the Save dialog.
EXPECTED RESULT
Ctrl+S calls the save dialog, allow users to set location and name for new
screenshots.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It's logical to place the checkbox in the same page of saving options for
setting templates, i.e., "Image Saving" and "Video Saving".
