            Bug ID: 524299
Summary: Key repeat issue in native Linux games using wayland
                    with an IME
    Classification: I don't know
           Product: kde
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: CachyOS
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION
When an IME such as fcitx is enabled as a virtual keyboard, native Linux games
using wayland (natively or with SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland) trigger key repeats
when a key is held down.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have an IME (fcitx) enabled as a virtual keyboard
2. Launch a native Linux game with wayland support, or with
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland
3. Hold a key that performs an action that shouldn't repeat

OBSERVED RESULT
Key is repeated causing things such as menus to open and close repeatedly.

EXPECTED RESULT
Key doesn't repeat, like when the game is running through xwayland with fitx
set as the virtual keyboard.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window): CachyOS Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.28.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This was an issue with Wine's wayland driver, but has been worked on.
https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/10007
"For example, fcitx takes over the character repeat functionality when enabled,
and does it via repeatedly sending sequences of keyup/keydown, which leads to
applications not being able to track hold duration of a button (can be
reproduced on any game which requires holding a letter key)."

Attached is a recording of the native Factorio Demo set to use wayland. I hold
esc with fcitx enabled as a virtual keyboard, then with none. The input method
is "Keyboard - English (US)" when fcitx is set as the virtual keyboard.
Besides setting the virtual keyboard to none, directly disabling key repeat in
the general keyboard settings also works around the issue.
