            Bug ID: 524338
Summary: Improve file dialog's performance for loading big
                    directories?
    Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
           Product: frameworks-kio
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: unspecified
                OS: Unspecified
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Open/save dialogs
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

I have some HUGE folders in my system. They grow even further every day, which
adds more stuff for the file dialog to render while I'm trying to save one more
thing into them. Be it videos, games, or pictures. The amount of stuff makes
the dialog render progressively slower as the folders keep growing.

Currently, if I download something into a ~13.5k-item folder that I have, it
takes around 4 seconds until everything is loaded and the file is finally able
to get saved. Worth noting this is on an NVMe drive, so imagine how long it'd
take on a slower medium.

This somehow isn't a problem with, for example, the GTK file dialog, however.
All folders load in an _instant_, including the aforementioned one, regardless
of how much stuff they have. I'm not sure as to what happens under the hood for
this one to be much faster than KDE's, but it is a drastic difference that I
would like to see being brought onto KDE's file dialog. Different indexing
approaches, maybe? Caching? Might be saying nonsense.
