SUMMARY
Threads: add a thread list and unread thread indicator so replies can be found
without scrolling
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In a busy room, reply to a message with "Reply in Thread".
2. Wait for someone else to answer in that thread.
3. Try to read the answer.
OBSERVED RESULT
Thread replies are hidden from the main timeline and only rendered nested under
the root message. To read a new reply you have to remember which message the
thread hangs off, scroll back up to it, expand it, then scroll back down again
afterwards. There is no list of threads, no "unread thread" badge on the room
or the root message, and no way to see that a thread has new activity at all.
In rooms where the root message is a few hours old this makes threads nearly
unusable.
EXPECTED RESULT
Some way to reach threads with recent activity without scrolling, for example:
- a Threads panel or drawer for the room listing threads by latest activity,
with unread state, opening the thread on click (similar to Element's Threads
panel)
- an unread indicator on the room when a thread the user takes part in gets a
new reply
- optionally, a per room or global setting to show thread replies in the main
timeline as well, for people who prefer the flat view
Any one of these would already help massively; the first is the most useful.

NeoChat: 26.08.0 (nightly flatpak from cdn.kde.org, master build 2026-08-17,
libQuotient 0.10 dev) - same behaviour in 26.08 stable
