SUMMARY
After running Find Duplicates (Tools > Duplicates), the "Remove Duplicates"
button
in the sidebar remains disabled even with a valid duplicate group and a
non-reference image explicitly selected. It only becomes active when
selecting multiple checkboxes across duplicate groups at once — a single
selection (one group, one duplicate image) never enables it.
As a workaround we tried deleting duplicates manually (selecting the
non-reference image and pressing Delete), which works for single items but
is impractical at this library scale. When selecting larger batches of
duplicate images and confirming deletion multiple times, digiKam crashed
and triggered the DrKonqi crash handler.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a large collection (tens of thousands of albums) in digiKam 9.1.0 on
Windows.
2. Go to the Duplicates view in the left sidebar, click "Find Duplicates".
3. Wait for the search to complete (results populate the "Ref. images" list).
4. Select one duplicate group from the list, then click the non-reference
image in the right-hand thumbnail panel.
5. Observe: "Remove Duplicates" button stays disabled.
6. Instead, select multiple checkboxes across several groups at once.
7. Observe: "Remove Duplicates" becomes enabled.
8. As an alternative, select several duplicate images manually and press
Delete repeatedly to move them to trash.
9. Observe: application crashes / DrKonqi crash report dialog appears
during/after a batch of confirmations.
EXPECTED RESULT
"Remove Duplicates" should activate on a single valid group+image selection
(as the manual/documentation suggests), and bulk manual deletion of many
duplicate items should not crash the application.
ACTUAL RESULT
- Button stays disabled on single selection; only multi-checkbox selection
across groups activates it.
- Application crashes during manual bulk deletion of duplicate images.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Multiple digiKam windows were open simultaneously at various points during
this session (later closed down to one), which may or may not be a
contributing factor and might be worth testing as a separate variable.
- Happy to provide further logs/backtrace if needed — will attach if DrKonqi
offers a backtrace at crash time.
