Bug ID: 524850
Summary: In "Rectangular Region" mode, "Copy" from the
post-capture toolbar puts the entire screen content
into the clipboard
Classification: Applications
Product: Spectacle
Version First git-master
Reported In:
Platform: KDE Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: major
Priority: NOR
Component: General
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
In "Rectangular Region" mode, "Copy" from the post-capture toolbar puts the
entire screen content into the clipboard.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Spectacle with the "Accept on click-and-release" option for Rectangular
Region Selection disabled.
2. Start Spectacle and click the "Rectangular Region" button (or get there
directly by running `spectacle -r` or by using a keyboard shortcut bound to
"Capture Rectangular Region")
3. Click and drag to select a region
4. In the toolbar that appears below the captured image, click "Copy"
OBSERVED RESULT
The entire screen content has been pasted to the clipboard (including both
screens on my dual-monitor setup, but another user got equivalent behaviour on
a single-monitor setup).
EXPECTED RESULT
Only the selected region should be pasted to the clipboard.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE Linux 2026-08-27
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.30.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If you click "Save" on the toolbar, you get similar wrong behaviour (the entire
screenshot is saved to a file). But "Save As" does the right thing and saves
only the selected region.
>From the image edit window, Ctrl-C to copy the image to the clipboard does the
right thing and puts only the selected region into the clipboard.
This seems to have first appeared on the KDE Linux 2026-08-27 image.
