I was not particularly happy with the current Investment Performance by Account
as not all the data could be seen on one screen and scrolling to see the rest
was difficult. So i wanted to see if I could improve on it, and also the
Homepage dashboard, which I think puts a lot of people off what is an excellent
(maybe the best!) finance program available. I am certainly enjoying using it.
I have attached the results (and AIs!) of this in the attached zip. I have also
attached four screenshots of what these changes look like.
My own coding experience is mainly Excel VBA and some Python, so I want to be
transparent that the C++, JavaScript, HTML and CSS in the attached prototype
was generated with AI assistance and tested by me. I did not write it and would
not be competent to do so.
The changes include a more graphical Home dashboard and a Custom Reports plugin
using KMyMoney’s existing plugin framework. The reports use HTML/CSS/vanilla
JavaScript for presentation, while the underlying financial data and
calculations remain in KMyMoney, including PivotTable/PivotGrid and native XIRR
calculations.
Three example reports are included: Expenses by Category, Monthly Income &
Expenses, and Investment Ledger (yup those last two paragraphs were written by
AI).
The Home dashboard currently requires a small Home-view enhancement and is
documented separately from the plugin.
I have attached the source, build instructions and developer notes. I am
interested in whether you consider that this type of development is OK - I know
it is a departure from fully handwritten code and would require review before
implementation in the main code. However I was personally impressed by what
could be achieved using AI assistance and I think, especially the dashboard, is
well worth incorporating into the main KMyMoney program.
