DESCRIPTION
Navigating multiple split terminal views in konsole
by using the keyboard shortcuts for
"focus (above|below|left|right) terminal"
as found in
konsole's hamburger menu > settings > configure keyboard shortcuts
started behaving differently / incorrectly after update
using these shortcuts i could move the focus as expected: up down left right
however after an update to konsole 26.08.0
(delayed and incorporating many system packages and possibly jumping more than
one version and therefore uncertain what the last "working" version was)
most inputs to move the focus do nothing
some inputs move the focus in an unexpected direction
some focused views can be moved "into" but not "out of"
the behavior is consistent for a given window and split view arrangement - in
other words the moving of focus is not random with each keyboard shortcut
activation but rather "scrambled"
(think of the default working behavior as moving a character in a 2d game -
each split view is one grid cell and they are all arranged square and flush
like the squares on a chess board...
and think of the behavior i am encountering as if the chess board had "holes"
and "one way passages" and "dead ends" and resembled a labyrinth)
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open a konsole window
2. create (for example a 3x3 grid of) multiple "split view"s (default shortcut
"ctrl+(" and "ctrl+)" )
3. attempt moving the focus from one such split to one of its neighbors
(default shortcut "ctrl+shift+arrowkeys" ) for example "ctrl+shift+downarrow"
OBSERVED RESULT
A. focus does not move at all or in a wrong direction (only sometimes moving in
the correct direction)
B. focus moving behavior changes depending on what the currently focused split
view is
EXPECTED RESULT
A. focus moves in the direction of the activated shortcut for example to the
split view below the currently focused split view if "ctrl+shift+downarrow" is
pressed
B. focus moving directions are consistent no matter what view has focus before
pressing the shortcut ("down should always point down")

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
cycling through split views by using "ctrl+tab" seems to cycle in a "weird"
pattern too, though i am not sure. i am also not sure if ctrl+tab cycling
behaved differently / "better" before the update. at the very least it strikes
me as odd that the order in which the views are cycled through are NOT in a
regular pattern like "left to right top to bottom" or "in order of spawning"
if i had to make a wild guess, it is that the internal "coordinate system" of
split views are scrambled
