Dolphin "Details" Network Speeds vs Network Monitor
DESCRIPTION
Network shares that are mounted using either SMB4K or an NFS share, while
copying files from local to the network share, the Dolphin popup notification
window (top right that shows the transfer progress with "Details" showing) -
the graphical representation of the speed shows erratic speeds.
NB This doesn't happen if you mount the network shares through Dolphin itself -
i.e Places Panel>Network>Shared Folders(SMB)>NAS Device>Folder. Then transfers
seems to be fairly steady. It only seems to happen when Network shares are
mounted with SMB4K or an NFS share (I'm not sure if it also does it with an SMB
share mounted in fstab file but most likely as well).
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Network shares must be already mounted using either SMB4K app or NFS (in
fstab)
2. Open Dolphin
3. Select Network share (from Places) and local file locations within Dolphin
4. Drag file from local folder to network folder (can be done in Split-View or
separate instances)
5. Dolphin pops up a notification in the top right corner showing copy progress
6. Click on "details" to show the transfer graph
OBSERVED RESULT
The "Details" graph shoots from 0-600MiB/s for a few seconds, then drops to
below the network speed. Transferring multiple files also cause the graph to be
more erratic.
EXPECTED RESULT
Graph should be more representative of the actual network transfer speeds,
rather than the cached RAM sensor it seems to be using (I've included an image
with "Details" vs "Actual Network Speeds" applet from System Monitor.).
Normally when transferring multiple files, the two graphs vary widely. In the
Network monitor sensor, you can see that speeds go from zero to max network
bandwidth while transferring, finish transfer, drops to zero briefly while it
waits for server response, then sends the next file and so on. Dolphins
"Details" instead shows the data speeds dumped into cache instead - zero to
very high speeds (as in 0-635MiB/s) then when the cache is full, drops to
actual transfer or below network speeds. The timeline is also skewed as it will
show a fast transfer timeline but pause towards the end (95-100%) for a few
seconds while it waits for the full file to be transferred.

Sorry it was hard to get a good screen shot of the file transfer, but basically
the Network Monitor is more constant speed than Dolphins "Details" graph
