            Bug ID: 525281
Summary: IPv4 DNS changes are saved but not applied until
reconnect, with no indication to the user
    Classification: I don't know
           Product: kde
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

After changing the DNS server in the IPv4 tab of a connection and clicking
Apply, the new setting is written to the profile but is not used by the running
connection. The old DNS server remains active. Nothing in the UI indicates
this, so the change appears to have silently failed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Open WLAN & Networks, select an active wired connection
Go to the IPv4 tab, set Method to Manual and enter a DNS server (e.g. 1.1.1.1)
Click Apply
Run resolvectl status <interface>

OBSERVED RESULT

The interface still lists the previous DNS server. Name resolution continues to
use the old server. Reactivating the connection (nmcli connection up <name>, or
toggling it off and on) applies the new setting.

EXPECTED RESULT

Either the change is applied immediately, or the user is told it will only take
effect on the next connection activation.

SUGGESTION

An inline notice after saving would resolve this, ideally with a "Reconnect
now" button. As it stands, a user has no way to know the setting is stored but
inactive, and will reasonably assume the dialog is broken.

SOFTWARE VERSIONS

KDE Plasma: 6.7.4
plasma-nm: 6.7.4-1.1
NetworkManager:1.58.1-1
Distribution: CachyOS
