--- Comment #6 from Michał <[email protected]> ---
Thinking about this and looking at the settings in General tab, from user's
perspective it's unclear what's the difference between "When launching
Spectacle" vs "While Spectacle is running". Perhaps this is some artifact from
the old versions before Spectacle was integrated this closely with Plasma.

To me it's not exactly clear when it's "launching" and when it's "running". Is
it "launching" only the first time I use it after logging in? Is it "running"
while its window stays opened? Is it then "launching" again after the window
was dismissed? Is it "launching" or "running" if the window wasn't dismissed,
but is minimized? Or does it stay "running" even if the window is closed?

This doesn't seem intuitive and perhaps it's partially the cause of the
problems?

The second setting is "While Spectacle is running, Press screenshot key to:"
and the options are "Take a new Screenshot" and "Open a new Spectacle window".
I don't understand the purpose of this setting and how it's different from the
first dropdown of "When launching Spectacle". No matter what the definition of
"running" is, I don't want Spectacle to have subtly confusingly
different/broken behavior depending on whether I already took a screenshot or
not in the session, whether the window is dismissed, minimized/unfocused or
opened straight in my face.
It seems that this setting potentially alters the behavior of regular
screenshot key in confusing ways. I think it reasonably should always behave
the same, as configured in the first dropdown, when I press the screenshot key,
regardless of what state the existing window happened to be in.

I have a suspicion that what this setting might actually mean to do, is to
allow to have multiple Spectacle windows to be opened up with the taken
screenshot, after a screenshot was taken. As in, let a new screenshot always
open a new Spectacle window with it, while leaving old windows of older
screenshots still in existence.
But if that's the case, then I think it's in urgent need of re-wording it and
fixing the behavior to focus around this concept instead. This might simplify
the logic and maybe even fix all 3 bug scenarios that I listed in one swoop?

P.S. Thank you very much for continuously improving Spectacle little brick by
brick in every other version, I noticed and appreciated how much it's overall
improved in my almost 2 years of daily-driving Plasma.
