Ok. With what you asked me, I can now tell the whole story. I added a user to my system and tested file renaming in the Folder View. Indeed it worked. So I came back to my own account and tested it again : it wasn't working... Well. That's where my specific configuration come into play. I put my Folder View into an auto-maskable panel on the left of the screen (I want to put it in a top panel but then the icons are not displayed). In THIS specific configuration, directory entries cannot be renamed. However, indeed, when I add the Folder View on the desktop instead of in a panel, the entries can be renamed with either F2 or contextual menu (F2 doesn't work on entries when the Folder View is in a panel).
