SUMMARY
When setting up dual (or multiple) monitors with different resolutions or
physical sizes, it can be difficult to precisely align the edges using only a
mouse. I would like to request visual alignment guides and keyboard-based
fine-tuning within the Display Configuration module.
PROPOSED FEATURE
1. Visual Reference Guides:
- Provide a temporary visual reference (such as a grid, crosshair, or colored
reference lines) that appears across both physical screens when dragging them
in the System Settings layout preview.
- Alternatively, add an option to display a "test pattern" or "test line" on
the actual physical monitors simultaneously so the user can visually confirm
that the screens match perfectly.
2. Keyboard Fine-Tuning:
- Allow users to select a monitor in the preview box and use the keyboard Arrow
Keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) to shift its position pixel-by-pixel for precise
alignment.
- Holding 'Shift + Arrow Keys' could allow for larger jumps (e.g., 10 pixels or
snapping to the nearest edge).
JUSTIFICATION
Currently, aligning monitors of mismatched sizes or resolutions involves a lot
of mouse trial-and-error (moving the mouse cursor back and forth across the
screen boundary to see if it jumps up or down). A visual reference guide
combined with micro-adjustments via keyboard arrow keys would make the
configuration process significantly faster, more accurate, and more accessible.
