Bug ID: 525964
Summary: Allow users to move unwanted Wi-Fi networks to an
"Ignored networks" section
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.7.5
Reported In:
Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: Networks widget
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
I would like an option to hide selected Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs) from the Plasma
Networks widget.
In environments with many neighboring Wi-Fi networks, the list can become
cluttered with SSIDs that the user will never connect to.
This should be a purely visual filter. NetworkManager should continue to scan
and detect these networks normally. Selected SSIDs should no longer be
displayed in the main list of available networks, but should instead be moved
to a separate section at the bottom of the list, similar to the existing
"Previously used networks" section.
A convenient implementation could provide:
1. A "Ignore this network" action for Wi-Fi networks in the Networks widget.
2. Ignored networks are moved to a separate, clearly labeled section at the
bottom of the network list, similar to the existing "Previously used networks"
section.
3. An option to restore an ignored network to the normal list.
4. This should only affect the presentation in the Plasma UI. The networks
should remain visible to NetworkManager and tools such as `nmcli`.
A possible implementation could look similar to:
Available networks
────────────────────────
my-home5
MyOtherNetwork
Ignored networks
────────────────────────
TheOneGuest!
Vodafone-D64C
WLAN-D6ED3B
WLAN-J78EWM
Previously used networks
────────────────────────
homenet5
xxfgneigbornet_2
otherhome2
This would be particularly useful in densely populated areas where many
neighboring access points are permanently visible.
